Inclusion of Other in the Self Scale (IOS)
Social psychologist Arthur Aron and colleagues (1992) developed the single-item Inclusion of Other in the Self (IOS) scale to measure how close the respondent feels with another person or group. The IOS has been given to respondents as young as five years old (Cameron, 2006), as well as to teens and adults. It has also been used with respondents living on a low income and previously incarcerated respondents (Folk et al., 2016; Mashek, Cannaday, & Tangney, 2007). Respondents see seven pairs of circles that range from just touching to almost completely overlapping. One circle in each pair is labeled “self,” and the second circle is labeled “other.” Respondents choose one of the seven pairs to answer the question, “Which picture best describes your relationship with [this person/group]?” Researchers indicate what person or group the “other” circle stands for (e.g., “your romantic partner,” “your parents,” “your community,” etc.). 1 = no overlap; 2 = little overlap; 3 = some overlap; 4 = equal overlap; 5 = strong overlap; 6 = very strong overlap; 7 = most overlap.

The Mission Skills Assessment (MSA) is an online assessment that targets 6 noncognitive constructs: creativity, curiosity, ethics, resilience, teamwork, and time management. Social Competence and Behavior Evaluation‐30 (SCBE-30)
The Social Competence and Behavioral Evaluation - 30 (SCBE-30) is a short version of an 80 item Likert measure for parents and teachers to assess social-emotional competence, internalizing behaviors, and externalizing behaviors in preschool children. It was formerly sold by WPS Publishing but no longer is. It has been translated into many languages and is used in cross-national comparisons.

Social Emotional Health Survey-Secondary (SEHS-S)
The Social Emotional Survey-Secondary (SEHS-S) is a 36-item self-report measure of students’ social and emotional strengths. The 12 subscales (each consisting of three items) are associated with four domains of positive social-emotional health: belief in self, belief in others, emotional competence, and engaged living. These four correlated domains assess the higher-order construct of covitality. The SEHS-2020 is the most recent validated version.

Social Networks and Friendship Survey
The Social Networks and Friendship Survey asks participants to indicate their friends in the classroom. From this list, children are asked to identify the top 3 friends by marking them with a star. The survey also asks children to indicate “rejects” or children with whom they don’t like to hang out.

Social Responsiveness Scale-2 (SRS-2)
The Social Responsiveness Scale-2 (SRS-2) measures the presence and severity of social impairment within the autism spectrum. Parents, teachers, or other observers evaluate social ability in various natural settings for children between 2.5 and 18 years using age-appropriate forms with 65 Likert-scale items. Four forms are available: pre-school (2.5-4.5 years), school-age (4-18 years), adult (19+), and adult self-report. SRS-2 has 5 subscales: social awareness, social cognition, social communication, social motivation, restricted interests, and repetitive behavior. The total continuous score indicates the severity of social deficits in the autism spectrum.
